Can One Girl Change the World for Animals?
When Amanda Cotter is dragged to Australia, away from her best friend and her dog, she thinks things can’t get much worse.
Well, that’s until she finds herself hiding in a caged egg farm after her first day at Woollybutt High.
As she looks into the eyes of a trapped hen, Amanda realises that if she gets out of here, nothing will be the same again.
Will she be able to prove to her dad that one 13-year-old activist really can make a difference or will her efforts get herself and the hens in more trouble than ever before?

Amanda the Teen Activist was a book I read in one sitting on a rainy afternoon. Amanda is an endearing main character with a bit of temper to go with her fiery hair. She truly wants to make a difference whenever she sees suffering of any kind, from bees to hens. I liked how the story unfolds and there are many great supporting characters as well. Jimmy Bolt, Nell, Dr. Flo, Lilly, Freya, and more really made this story interesting."Empathy is what you need to encourage others. Think about those who don't give a toss. What can you do to help them experience what the hens are feeling."

Amanda the Teen Activist Feathers Freedom edition by Catherine Kelaher Children eBooks Reviews
What a delightful story - and a great way to open young people's eyes to animal rights and the importance of standing up for what you believe in. In teen books it's so refreshing that there's no "crushing" or shallow teen drama. I look forward to passing it to my girls to read.
Amanda is such a great heroine, standing firm for what she believes in while still dealing with the stress of starting high school in a different country! Even as a grown up, I was inspired by her and learned a lot from her story. It was equal parts funny and moving, and I hope to see more of Amanda saving the world, one chicken at a time!
I loved every moment of this book. Ms Kelaher hooked me with the first sentence and took me on a fun and inspiring journey. Awesome sauce writer and I will be sharing this with all the teens I know. Great job. Looing forward to more books by this author.
What a terrific book! The author does a wonderful job of immediately pulling the reader into her fight against battery farms (chickens crammed into cages who live in horrific conditions and die terrible deaths). I cried when she lost and I cried when she won. Truly a very moving story, especially for an animal lover like myself. Kudos to this author!!!
Amanda the Teen Activist was purchased by me as a present for my god-daughter. As her birthday was a few weeks away, when my copy arrived I started to read it - and read and read until I had finished! It really captures your imagination and I enjoyed going back to my teen years, envisaging that I was one of Amanda's friends. I think it will inspire young people to realise that they can be activists and empower them to make changes in the world, particularly against some of the cruel practices that are considered normal in animal agriculture. All children are born with compassion but society brainwashes it out of them.
I wish such a book had been around when I was young.
Catherine Kelaher offers a compelling tale about a homesick teenage girl, and a band of her friends that want to make a difference! As the story unfolds the reader begins to understand the cruelty that happens to chickens on many egg farms. The author captures the impulsive behavior we all can exhibit in our passion to right a wrong. I love how the main character Amanda and her chums discover how to make a difference in an effective way! My eyes were opened to being a responsible consumer - thank you Catherine! I hope more books are in the making as I am sure Amanda and her team have more work to do! Good on ya!
I absolutely LOVED this book! The pages just flew by. It’s a really catchy story that just pulls you in. You can imagine the story in your head almost like a movie. This means it was a great fiction story but also very realistic in many ways. Some of the content is related to author’s own experience so you can see the emotions behind those pages are real and personal and this is why it’s so good.
I think the content and language of this book is perfectly written to the intended age group but it’s also wise enough and mature. Amanda would make a great role model for young teens when it comes to standing up for what you believe in - being compassionate and loving to all creatures of this planet. To show that even young people have a voice and can absolutely make a difference if they are passionate about something and keep persisting.
I wish every teenager (and their parents) would read this book. It really makes you think of what goes on in the real world and how you can make it a better place. I will definitely recommend this book!
